Haven

Private communication across email and messaging.

Haven brings OpenPGP-encrypted email, IETF-standard MLS group messaging, private files and aliases into one account. No phone number is required. Users hold their keys, and the cryptographic core is open to inspection.

Haven
01

What it is

Haven is a private communications environment for the whole relationship: an inbox that reaches the email world, secure group conversations, and encrypted files under one account, with keys held by the user.

02

Why Haven exists

People should not need three providers and three identities to keep one sensitive relationship private.

Privacy across the workflow

A source conversation can begin in email, continue in a group chat, and include documents. Haven puts those conversations and files in one app.

Identity without a SIM

Sign-up uses a username and passphrase. Haven requires no phone number, supports aliases, and keeps identity rooted in keys created on the user's device.

Communication beyond one vendor

Email works because different providers can communicate. Haven keeps that property for mail and participates in the standards work bringing the same freedom to private group messaging.

Privacy available by right

The core privacy features remain free. Supporter subscriptions keep the service independent, while verified staff at selected press-freedom, digital-rights, and human-rights organisations can receive Haven Ultimate without charge.

Haven is built for journalists protecting sources, activists coordinating across borders, lawyers handling privileged material, researchers with sensitive work, and people who reject surveillance as the price of ordinary communication.

03

The product system

01

Encrypted email

OpenPGP protects mail exchanged with recipients who use encryption. Haven also sends and receives ordinary email; those messages are not automatically end-to-end encrypted.

02

MLS group messaging

Secure group conversations built on the IETF Messaging Layer Security standard rather than a private group protocol.

03

Keys under user control

Recovery uses a 24-word seed held by the user. The service has no master recovery key.

04

Encrypted vault

Sensitive files live beside the conversations they belong to, encrypted on the user's device before storage.

05

Email aliases

Aliases provide additional email addresses within the same account.

06

Across devices

One encrypted account across web, Android, and Linux, with iOS work underway.

07

Independent business model

No advertising and no sale of user data. Paid subscriptions fund the free privacy tier and ongoing development.

08

Public technical work

The cryptographic core and interoperability work are public, alongside participation in IETF MLS and MIMI.

Entente develops Haven across its cryptographic core, clients, mail services, storage, and production operations. The cryptographic core and interoperability work are available for review.

Private communication without another closed silo.
